Bleecker Street Cranking It Up To 11: Distrib Acquires Rob Reiner’s ‘Spinal Tap II’ & Sets Fall Release – Watch The Teaser

Bleecker Street has taken not just U.S. distribution rights to Rob Reiner’s long-awaited Spinal Tap II: The End Continues but the original 1984 cult classic This Is Spinal Tap as well.

The sequel to the movie that defined the mockumentary subgenre of cinema has Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprising their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap.

Reiner is back as documentarian Martin “Marty” DiBergi, with cameos from music legends Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Also appearing will be Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman and Chris Addison.

Bleecker Street is planning a nationwide U.S. theatrical release of a newly-restored edition of This Is Spinal Tap this summer. The original will subsequently be made widely available on digital and streaming platforms for the first time in years, in anticipation of the sequel’s wide theatrical release on Sept 12 (Toronto International Film Festival launch perhaps?).
